Lay and honorary judges: professionals to be valorised in Europe

Lay and honorary judges play a key role in the proper functioning of EU Member States judicial systems, concurring to ensure their effectiveness and quality. Thanks to their work, they shorten the time of judicial system’ response to citizens, bringing them closer and strengthening global trust towards the judicial system.

Despite the centrality of their role, proper attention is not always payed by EU Member States regarding lay and honorary judges’ specific training on EU law.

SELECT project represents the first opportunity for EU lay and honorary judges to access dedicated training, with transnational impact, on EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
